Instructions and Help about How to dispute a 1099-c

Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to talk about how to dispute an incorrect 1099 from an employer. You've obviously received this 1099 from the employer, but it doesn't match your records, and you want to make sure it's correct. Well, the first thing you want to do is be sure to go through your records and make sure that you have records like canceled pay stubs or bank account statements showing the deposits. Compare these records to the 1099 and make sure it is indeed inaccurate. Then, call your employer and provide them with the information you have, such as the canceled paycheck stubs and bank account deposit records. Show them where the discrepancies lie and ask them to correct it. Usually, they will cooperate and rectify the issue. However, if they don't, you need to wait until at least February 15th of the year in which you received the 1099 before contacting the IRS. When you contact the IRS, make sure you have all the correct information about the employer, including their correct name and address. Request the appropriate forms from the IRS, which they will send to you. They will then initiate contact with the employer to resolve the problem. Normally, this will take care of the issue. However, if it doesn't, the IRS will provide you with a form to complete where you can report your wages and earnings. You can still file your income tax return using this form. So, that's what you need to do to dispute an incorrect 1099 from your employer. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching.
